How We Price Tree Removal

What Affects the Cost of Tree Work?

Every tree—and every property—is unique. That’s why we don’t give cookie-cutter quotes or list “average” prices. Some jobs are straightforward; others require technical climbs, careful rigging, or the use of specialized equipment. Pricing can range from a few hundred dollars to several thousand, depending on the scope.

Here are some of the factors that affect your estimate:

  • Size and height of the tree

  • Species and density (some are much heavier to haul)

  • Leaning or unstable growth

  • Proximity to structures or power lines

  • Climbing requirements versus a straight base cut

  • Access for equipment (tight backyards = more hands-on time)

  • Clean-up and disposal needs

  • Whether you’d like to keep the wood for firewood or mulch

We’re always transparent about what goes into our pricing, and we’ll walk you through your options during the quote visit. Jesse never rushes a quote—because a safe, informed plan is the first step to a successful removal.

Obstacles

The closer a tree is to breakables—sheds, fences, wires, garden beds—the longer it takes to bring it down safely. Sometimes, we have to lower branches piece by piece to avoid damage, which adds time and complexity.

Want to help reduce the cost? Clear the area around the tree as much as possible! While you can’t move your house, you can relocate patio furniture, plant pots, or garden décor to make the job smoother and faster.

Tree Species

Not all trees are created equal. A tree of the same height can have drastically different removal needs based on species.

  • Dense canopies take longer to clear.

  • Heavier timber means more work and higher disposal fees.

  • Some species are tougher on gear and crews than others.

Simply put: the type of tree makes a difference—and Jesse’s trained eye factors that into every quote.

Dangerous Trees

A “dangerous tree” isn’t just leaning—it may be rotting, hollow, cracked, or growing too close to power lines. These trees can’t always be climbed or felled from the base. Sometimes we need rigging, cranes, or specialized equipment to bring them down safely.

Even if the job looks small from the outside, safety risks increase the complexity. Jesse will assess the condition carefully and walk you through the safest game plan.

Access to the Tree

Can we get a truck close to it, or are we hiking gear through a gate, over a deck, or around a garden bed? Tight access often means more manual labour, climbing, or creative rigging—and that adds time to the job.

Disposal Preferences

Want to keep the wood for firewood? We can cut and stack it. Want it all chipped and hauled? We can do that too. Your cleanup preference affects the time and dump fees involved, so we always ask what suits you best.

Climbing vs Base Cutting

Some trees can be safely dropped from the base. Others, especially those near structures, require Jesse to climb and take them down piece by piece. The more technical the job, the more time and gear it takes.

Season & Weather

Frozen ground, storm aftermath, or windy conditions all affect how and when the work can be done safely. While Jesse works year-round, some jobs require rescheduling for the right conditions—and that might affect planning or cost.

“We don’t do ballpark quotes because we don’t do ballpark work.”

Every tree is different, and Jesse doesn’t believe in ballpark quotes for good reason.

Instead, we offer clear, site-specific quotes based on experience, safety, and fairness. You’ll always know what you’re paying for—and why.
